President Trump Appoints Acting Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board

President Trump has named Philip A. Miscimarra as Acting Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, replacing former Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce. As Chairman, Miscimarra may issue rulings regarding the National Labor Relations Act, so franchisors should seek to remain informed on any decisions that may impact their status under joint employment laws.

Miscimarra served a Board Member of the NLRB since August 7, 2013, after having been nominated by President Obama on April 9, 2013 and being unanimously approved by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on May 22, 2013. His current term will expire on December 16, 2017. Miscimarra received his law degree from University of Pennsylvania Law School and his MBA from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School. Prior to his service on the NLRB, Miscimarra practiced labor and employment law at several large law firms in Chicago.
